POC060 : 3 Assumptions You Have that Prevent Your Children from Developing Problem Solving Skills

Today is ‘Ask me a question Monday’….and we have a question from a parent who asks:-

“I know that it is important for my child to learn problem solving skills, but my 4 year old seems to be really struggling with it. When he faces difficulties, he will ask me for help and cry if I don’t help him. Then he will give up all together”

Here are three assumptions that many parents often have that will stifle their children’s attempts to learn problem solving skills……

1) assume that children are incapable of being self-initiated learners

2) assume that children learn problem solving skills when we solve problems for them

3) assume that children need rescuing when they ask for it
